Help with brakes Sign In

Hi, I have a 1992 Chevy G-20 Sport van, 5.7 liter gas motor, 4 speed automatic transmission, 130,000 miles.

The other day, I jumped in, drove to the corner...and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor without effect--I did get stopped on the next hillside, and limped it back into my drive.

I opened the master cylinder cover, did not see any brake fluid...added about 30 ounces, replaced the cover. When I press the brakes without the engine running, it feels firm. Soon as I start it, though, the pedal goes softly to the floor...my thought is that the master cylinder itself needs replaced...

What do I need to know, and where do I start?

Alan

You have a fluid leak somewhere, not necessarily the master though. It just has air in the system now from going dry. The whole brake system needs to be inspected thoroughly by a professional.

We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
