Grinding noise when turning

Grinding noise when turning

Hi all
I was in a multi storey car park today and as I went up each level there was a grinding noise coming from the front of the car.
This only seemed to happen when the car was going up the slope and turning.
I went to a flat car park to see what happened when I turned (full lock) on level ground but there was no sound at all.
I fear that I go to a garage and they tell me its an expensive job when it is not (although of course it may be).
Does anyone have any idea what it may be?
I drive an Audi A3.

Have you even checked PS fluid level yet? If low find the leak and fix it asap. If you are steering hard against limits of range that alone could cause noises and troubles,
