2003 chevy cavalier. So far I have replaced my axle, wheel bearing hub, brakes and rotors, and re-balanced and rotated my tires yet i am still hearing a sorta grinding sound in my driver side front wheel that happens when I go straight or left but does not make the noise when i turn right. Check the see if the backing plate may be too close the the rotor and making contact when the wheel leans a little. You may have also replace the wrong wheel bearing.

Not for certain but a true possibility; I can’t count the number of times that I would have bet money that the noise was from one side or the other. Only too find myself with my pants around my ankles dead wrong.
Explore the possibility???

Re: Grinding in the wheel assembly Sign In

Just replaced my caliper to rule that out as a possibility only 18 dollars and that did not pan out it still is making that sound hard to describe its a grinding/ minor clunk. So Ill tackle the other side in the next few days to see if I got the side wrong but everyone i have ride with me says its coming from the driver side. One person mentioned to me that it could be bearing inside the transfer case i hope not.

If it make no noise when you turn right, that already points to a bad right bearing.

Awesome thanks for all your help it was the right bearing that was bad. I'm just confused how me and many other thought it was the other side. Lesson learned and knowledge gained so I can't be that upset.

You cannont trust your ears when it comes to noises. they can be very deceiving.
