Grease on outside of rim Sign In

I was cleaning the girlfriend's 2016 Kia Optima with 36,000 miles today and notice grease on the outside of both rims. It wasn't brake dust and some of it also splattered on the side of the car. Any idea what it might be? Wheel seal or bearing? There was no grease on the inside of the rims and no unusual noises. Had new tires installed this fall.

Mostly I'm unsure why just now as there's no real source for grease unless put there begs the question why? 36K might be about time it would have had front brakes redone those do or should be greased but smears on parts not what you describe.
YOU do mean both front wheels or both wheels on one side? Enough to get on the car both sides like that IDK? Could this thing have hit something in the road doubt we could be sure.

If both sides I suggest you or get fronts checked out brakes with caliper lifted up see what the heck is going on if not obvious just with wheel off,

I'm with Tom. I would suspect that it might be brake fluid. If it were grease slinging out of a wheel bearing or seal, you should be hearing some noises from the wheel bearings. You should have the wheels removed and the brakes checked.
