Got the wrong rims? Sign In

Hi i have obviously got the wrong rims ,i went over to ''U Pull It'' junk yard on half price wed payed 60$ for 4 rims and tires ,brought them home but they don't fit.

The break caliber is getting in the way ,they would fit if there was no breaks.

How do i get the right rims? I see no numbers on any of them like the tires?

I have a 98 pymouth breeze with the 5 lug ,when i was looking in the junk yard i couldn't find any dodge neons with tires so i fitted some chevy cavalier rims on the dodge and they fit but not on my car? And this is the first time iv done this

Are the tires any good and the right size? Rims are car specific for the most part and not interchangeable. If tires are right put them on your old rims or somehow do you need all of them?

My old rims ,thats the problem.

These ''thing's'' there not rims ,they are very wide 15'' ''lowrider'' spoked wheel thingy's. They came with the car and i even ask the owner if he can get the originals but he no speaka engish so this is what i'm stuck with.

They take these really low profile tires that beat the hell out of the car ,pot holes and stuff. The rims are destroyed because i let allot of air out to smoothin the ride so i can't sell them.

Some places wan't 90$ for a steel rim ,no freaking way should i have to pay that much ,i have standards.

I was wrong about the numbers ,i found some on 2 but there missing on the others?

Tires that's not what i was looking for due to my bouncing car rims ,i would have got them later at a local place.

Anybody know if i can just pick em off a neon?

If you like the car and want to keep it keep looking for proper rims AND tires. Those FLAT looking things I see out there can't take the slightest bumps without hurting the tire and the rims - don't know why that's such a rage.

It's a dang Neon not some hyper sports machine! These things are engineered into the proper handling of the car so not the best place to play with. Wrong tire sizes along with wrong wheel sizes from original will also change alignment angles so it will need that too with tires and wheels that are within spec for the car. I don't think the tires you have now are going to work on proper rims,

It's funny you mentioned wheel alignment because thats really screwed up as well. It's so screwed up not only the toe is off but the vertical tilt is off by allot it feels like a car from a 3rd world country.Tire ware is all uneven showing metal wires ,makes thumping sounds for no reason ,it's so ridiculous i can't even explain in words...

It's not safe to drive in the rain because then you really feel the full effects of what a crappy car is like.
It ride's like a fish all sideways like a monster truck.

And since the tires and rims are so stupid i know for a fact that it's already done it's damage on the rubber dampers above the struts ,i can see cracks.
Possible structural damage? i wouldn't be surprised.

I wish i were joking

Steering geometry all changes when you mess with wheels or tire size OR ride height. On the alignment machine it even matters what the load is in the trunk if excessive. Uneven load left to right changes it too. I know some people so fussy that drive alone almost all the time they want the car aligned with their body weight (some folks are pretty heavy) factored in!

PS: You see steel coming out tires! They gotta go sport!

Just a quick update, if you have metal showing & it's making the noise you say it is.........It's not safe to drive period!

Tom's pretty much covered everything, so there isn't much else to add..

You should be pretty safe will with factory rims of the same year but still would be best to "test" one before you buy it. Maybe the wrecking yard you got the rims from might work a deal on a swap.....

Just a heads up, not all are like this, but some take offense being referred to as a "junkyard". Wrecking, salvage or auto recyclers are all pretty safe... Its similiar to wanting to get a good deal from your tech & referring to him as a grease monkey.....

Wreck yard got it ,well i'm well aware of the dangers of such tires i just wanted to vent a little ,they could implode at high speed and possibly spin or flip the car.

I just wanted to know if the neon rims might or would work ,i looked at the drive train and breaks at the wreck yard and they look identical according to my little experience but what do i know? That's why i singed up to this forum ,if answering the question is an issue of non professionalism i totally understand.
I'm just trying to save money and time.

Finding the same car is not always a option that's why i ask.

Re: Got the wrong rims? Sign In

Sport - you have to measure a wheel in several different aspects. The problem with not clearing a brake caliper is how deep the dish of the wheel is.

Ask the salvage yard for help with this. That or pick another place for help. Ask a tire dealer where they get used wheels. The wheels from a non Chrysler product are unlikely to fit safely so get the ones the fit. Every aspect matters. Used plain steel wheels don't cost all that much where I am and things are expensive here,

Got em! Went to one of the local tire repair shops. It's a 15'' mopar and looks just like the original. I think it is the original but won't know until i see a professional about it.

Sounds good. A tire shop SHOULD be professional in knowing they are correct for the car!
