Good fuel&spark. But no start. Sign In

I have a 1998 Ford Contour w/2.0 4cyl. While pulling out of the driveway 2 days ago it shut off.Later that day I started troubleshooting.Starting with the usual.Pulled all the plugs and checked the spark, good.Checked fuel pressure, bad.Replaced fuel pump, good.Ohm TPS, good.Cranks like there is no tomorrow. Sprayed the intake trying for a stutter and nothing. From what I understand its a interference engine.Figured if its a broken timing belt I would hear the pistons slapping the valves when I crank. But don't hear nothing.Worked at a dealership for 3 yrs before military so kinda have some idea of what to look for but these eyes cant find it.Please help.Had 3 vehicles. This one went down a couple of days ago and now wife thrashed front end of hers by bambie. So down to 1.Not working out too good.

Have you done a compression check? You won't hear the pistons smacking valves once the valves are bent.

A couple of incorrect statements here................

1) No you wouldn't hear the pistons hitting anything if it was an interference engine.

2) This is not an interference engine and timing belt failures are quite common but if you confirm it, don't attempt it yourself if you don't have the locking tools. There are no timing marks on this engine.

Do a compression test to find out.

I won't say anything....lol (joking)

Seriously:
If you have spark on all cylinders and doesn't run on spray, the only thing that is left is compression, spark timing, and engine breathing.

We deal in actual test results and confirmed symptoms................. We don't deal in "what if's"
