Fuel pressure Sign In

Does anyone know what the fuel pressure should be for a 97 Chev Monte Carlo LS 3100 V-6 I put a test Gauge on and am reading 36 PSI at idle, Don't have imfo on this car. I'm having a problem when the car is low on gas maybe 1/8 on fuel gauge it won't start unless i put more gas in the car. When this happens test gauge reads about 12 PSI when you turn the key on. I have changed the fuel filter, still reads 12 PSI Would appreciate any ideas as to whats going on. maybe bad fuel pump? Thanks, Bob

Re: Fuel pressure Sign In

Do you mean that your car wont start, your pressure gauge is showing 12psi, you add gas to the tank, the pressure goes up to the normal and starts???
If so that is very strange, the fuel pump pick-up screen doesn’t float with the fuel, it’s fixed as close as possible to the bottom of the tank.

Agree with Dan - very strange!! Fuel injection needs more the 12 psi. The pick up for fuel is the same like he said so the fuel level shouldn't matter too much. The only thing I can think of is a low gas tank makes the fuel pump run hotter as they almost all recirculate and don't like being hot. It's a pain but keeping your gas tank near full can help prevent problems. - T
