Hello all, I'm not used to write on forums so please be patient Smile

My grand father has a 1993 Dodge Spirit which barely uses... because of that, fuel tank got corroded in the inside and the fuel pump and fuel sender got damaged by rust. I replace the 3 components by generic (yeah, made in china...) parts from rockauto.com.

The problem is that when you turn the ignition key to ON position (either you statred the engine or not) the fuel level gauge remains in FULL position (despite fuel level) and the low fuel level warning light comes on after a while and remains on also for a while, then it turns off and a while after turns on again.

I took the fuel sender out of the fuel tank and checked that it freely moves, it does, and the most incredible thing is that the fuel level gauge indicates the "fuel level" correctly while it is out of the tank. I moved to empty and it indicates "E" on the combination meter, moved to the middle and so on...

Does anyone have a clue of what is happening?
Best regards to all and thanks in advance!

It's possible that the strainer is positioned wrong on the assembley and when the unit is installed the "sock" is getting pushed up and binding the float on the sending unit.

Reposition the strainer if possible and also look inside the tank and see if there is a baffle or wall that the strainer might be hitting when installed..............

Thanks for the answer Sidom.

The fuel sender has only one position to be installed, it has 2 guides that are displaced from the center of the circumference, so there is no possibility of installing the part in a wrong position.

On the other way, I think (will confirm that this weekend) that the moving part of the fuel sender might not be blocked by anything inside the tank because it is supposed that the tank should be designed in a way that fuel sender doesn't get blocked by inner parts. As I said before, I will confirm that this weekend.

I'll keep you informed.

Thanks again!
Best regards
