Hi there, I originally had a problem in my 2003 ford focus with the ignition cylinder. The key wouldn't turn without hitting it somewhat hard. I bought a new cylinder and thought I could replace it myself. Before I actually took the old one out I found out about the anti-theft system in the car, and that I would need a scanning tool so the car recognizes the new ignition cylinder. Anyway the only two things I did to the car was disconnect the battery, and I briefly pulled out a green wire under the ignition (I know I didn't need to do that but it was my first time changing a cylinder) but I plugged it right back in. So, instead of screwing with it anymore myself I decided to take it to a garage. For some reason, the car then would not stay in drive without stalling. It will drive in 1st and 2nd gear, but when its in drive and it tries to automatically shift, it stalls. So far it has stumped two mechanics but they think its unrelated to anything I did. Please help?

That was because you disconnected the battery...............
The computer's adaptive strategy was erased and now has to be relearned but the system may be sludged up. Try cleaning the throttle body and disconnecting the battery again, then drive it normally.
To clean the throttle body........
Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC.

Just wanted to let you know I tried it and it worked. Thanks so much for saving me time and money. All the mechanics I brought it to couldn't even figure it out. Thanks again!
