I am attempting to replace the Ignition Barrel, and Key, on my sons Fiesta which is broken.
I have obtained a used replacement for a complete unit, as I am told you are unable to replace the barrel without the whole unit.
However on stripping out all the steering cowlings, electrics, and the old ignition barrel.
I am at a loss to see any fixing method, for the rest of Igntion/starter switch unit to the steering column.
The one piece unit surrounds the steering column, but dosnt appear to have any bolts, screws. or remains of any type of fixing.
Is it nessesary to remove the steering wheel before I can remove this unit.
Or is there some unkown trick I have missed, to replace it.
Any help would be much appreciated.

WARNING: You probably have an air bag that can about kill you if you hit the wrong wiresl'!!!!!!!!! Few ign switches went bad and most were lost keys, but they all required removal of the steering wheel which a a puller tool and you may just be better off having this done. I won't even start to advise you how to avoid blowing up air bags for something like this. Be safe with this, T

Yeah I agree Tom, Those things can fire sometimes, and they do explode... how else are they able to beat you to the steering wheel.... Besides, sometimes you need to disconnect a safty switch which will require a special tool to reset the light.... its best to get an estimate or two for this then to risk real injury...

It might be cheaper to have a locksmith replace it for you! I would call a few garages 7 a few locksmiths! Just an Idea from a newbee locksmith!

p.s. they may charge more per hour but take less time! since it's a major part of some locksmiths jobs
