My car has sat for a week. It starts fine but I can't shift it out of park. The shifter is NOT on the steering wheel column; it's on the floor. The button on the side will not push in. Please help me Obi Wan Kanobi.

Try having someone try to push the car back and forth while you try to manipulate the button. Push by hand - not a car!

This should have a shift lock. Many times if brake lights don't work it won't shift out of park. Check that a fuse for brake lights then switch if so.

Some of the console shift cars have a slot to release that just takes the key or any key I think to override the lock temporarily.

If it is just parked on a steep incline it may need a nudge (rocking as said) to get it out of park if all else is working,

I stopped by my mechanics today and he came out for free! He popped open a "thingamajiggy" inserted a nail and showed us how to press down on the spring which allowed us to shift. We are taking the car in tomorrow and he's going to remove it for us.

Thank you for your replies! It is MOST appreciated!!

Hey JIM! What about Kitties? Cool

She's not pleased with me as I sent her in to check the noise in the "spin" cycle of my washing machine today!
