i live in Toledo Ohio and have had some snow in the passed few days... i just bought a 2005 Ford 500, front wheel drive, 3.0. back in august and love the car, here is my problem... the car slides ALL over the place when its on rock or snow... it has new tires on it.. i know the 500 sits a little higher than some sedans out there but its bad... i feel i cant even drive in the snow... please let me know if you have any ways of me enhancing my driving in the snow with this car.. i used to drive a Dodge Intrepid and never once had a problem in the snow with it.. PLEASE HELP!!

Absolutely on the studs. If studded tires aren't legal in your state, try a snow tire such as a goodride or a blizzak. They are specifically made for traction in this. Also, a couple of 70 pound sandbags in the trunk wouldn't hurt. I know its a front wheel drive but the extra rear weight helps keep the back from kicking out so easily and improves braking on the ice. I run them in any car I drive in the winter, and Wisconsin gets decent winters

I've heard of excellent performance from Michelin's Blizzak tires but don't own any.

Frank - if new to ice and snow driving know that tires aren't created equal AND snow is not all the same each time. The warmer, wet stuff is much slippery than super cold.

I plow snow with four snow tires and sometimes (came new when I got the thing) it can get stuck like the thing is in neutral sitting still it's so slippery with wheel just spinning silently. Lousy tires as I've driven same vehicle with more predictable results.

Remember or think that friction grab far exceeds dynamic friction so braking and accelerating can work against steering in certain situations and changeable with each snow or ice situation,

T
