There was a lot of back and forth on smoke tests...there are some very interesting DIY smoke machines if you google "evap system smoke tests" and similar key words. One guy made one with a coffee can and a cigar. Drawbacks are pumping TOO much pressure into the evap system - NOT MORE THAN 2 TO 5 PSI, and not using a smoke source which will affect some sensors. But it's a fun and interesting subject to research.
