NOx is created by heat. Your combustion temratures are to high. Most common causes is either EGR is not working properly or at all or overheated during to test due to them not using emission fan to cool the vechical.

You can also try running high test too as it help a little in reducing NOx. Make sure they put the fan infront of the vechical while testing most people are to lazy to do so.

Can the issue come from having water instead of anti-freeze in the radiator?

Very little aslong as you have the cap on and its holding pressure.

Although I will say it's not a good idea to run pure water in your cooling system. antifreez actually has a lubrication property that keeps the pump bearing lubed.

Check engine is not on, and... it needs it's tune up anyways.

Can the EGR be cleaned?

sometimes you can lean it, take it off see if there is carbon build up. Get a jug of carb cleaner and soak it overnight. If it's a internal fault then it will have to be replaced.

Your best bet is to pull the codes so your not just throwing parts at it. Post the codes here and we will go from there.

That's obviously a piece of vacuum line that fell off from somewhere. It looks like it could be a line to the vacuum storage tank. Look for a round plastic ball that stores vacuum and it will have a nipple on it to plug a vacuum line to.
The electric plug could be nothing. Just something the truck is not equipped with.

Yeah, on the 2nd picture there is a connection that goes towards the passenger inside

Re: Failed Smog CHeck (Jumps of cliff) Sign In

your piece of vaccum line looks like the one on my car that broke. the top one should go to your map sensor, the middleone goes on a line that goes through the passeneger side fire wall that i was told goes to the gas tank, and the bottom one goes to the vaccum accumulator.

Re: Failed Smog CHeck (Jumps of cliff) Sign In

what kind of car is this? the ball is the vaccum accumulator, its not always a ball shape, but it will have a vaccum line connected to it, follow the line coming off of it and it should connected where those lines came from or one of those lines oyu have should connect to it. ik on my car mine is mounted above my bumper on my frame under my battery. check the frame of your vehicle towards the front passenger side of your car.

Did you ever get the codes pulled?.. there might be 2 screws holding the MAF in that housing unscrew them take the MAF out and spray the small wires that connect to the poles.. do not touch the wires or wipe with any type of material.
