Failed MOT - Exhaust pipe corroding at the front Sign In

FrownFrownFrown
Hi I purchased my first ever car from ebay...( Yea Im an idiot) its a punto 1.2, 3 door on a 52 plate. I paid 600 pounds for the car and I have driven it 32 miles since I bought it as Im yet to have my driving test. I took it for an MOT yesterday(at kwikfit) and was told that the car needs £671 pounds worth of work done to it. Unsure Seriously I dont have this money!! Apparently the front nearside shock absorber is leaking and the front part of the exhaust is corroding. Also they have marked my rear brakes as **DANGEROUS**. I have rang around a few garages but I just want to know if anyone may have an idea if I should be paying nearly 700 quid for this work to be done or is it better to just scrap the vehicle~
??? Please help as I am completely clueless and really don't want to get conned.
Thanks, Lisa.

What do you want us to say? That you should have gotten the car checked out before buying it? I think you know that now. Don't get taken advantage of twice though. Go get a second opinion on the repair work.

I actually took my step father with me who is supposed to know about cars. The question I asked was if the car is worth repairing.

I'm in the US so I don't have a good understanding of your money but it sounds like your exceeding the value of the car. The main question is whether all this is even necessary. That's why I recommended getting another opinion.

I have taken it to a local garage and they have quoted 400 for the work. Apparently its the gaskets and the handbrake needs taking apart and cleaning. shock absorber and little bits and pieces like 2 new tyres and a wiper blade.
