Ok i live in Laplace Louisiana and we had a flood. the flood had got inside the car as well no higher than the bottom of the seats. how did water enter my engine. i change the battery the car started but i didnt drive it i just let it shoot out water from the exhaust pipe but before i turn the ignition i checked the oil dipstick it looked good. is it a blown headgasket or something else and how much you think it will cost me im sorry 2006 impala v6

It probably just leaked in through the pan gasket or dipstick tube. That was a real bad move to start it while it's under water though. Change the oil ASAP without starting it again.You could have transmission and differential contamination too.

turtles: Sorry for that disaster. It's unclear to me if you started it while under water or after but it was to a point that counts. Not sure why you needed to mess with the battery but could have drained with a hot wire (starter) making enough short to ground while in water. Not good for any electrical, oil sealing, grease sealing (cv joints, wheels etc) brake parts an other surprises that probably will crop up.
I can imagine the insult to injury but don't run it yet again. If you can get a shop that isn't booked up with this stuff and open to go I'd tow it there. Have everything possible checked, fluids changed as the shop finds AND pull wheels to see if brakes even appear ok or what.
Not sure why you think a head gasket just yet and might not be. Unfortunately I would bet there are several techs that have seen assorted levels of flood issues which may help.
If all is checking out and running again do consider whatever it takes to dry out carpet, seats. If muddy water - yuk - more to clean up. Perhaps mark with removable tape where you know highest water was if not apparent now.
Again - if it all gets going and cleaned up without nasty damage some parts and wiring connections may show up later as a problem.
There's a chance this car is totalled and if insured for that may need that route. Stinks no matter what. Good luck,

Not to mention the air bag controller is bolted to the floor board underneath the passenger's seat.
Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
