EML light and engine coolant light

Morning
I have a 2000 astra 2.0di. At present the engine coolant light comes on leaving it running like a bag of you know what, thus giving me no pulling power, when this light goes off there is also a funny burning smell. Also to add to this the EML light comes on to, if they both come on together which they normally do the engine is a waste of thime in trying to pull away. The coolant level is spot on and there is no white gunk on the underside of the oil filler cap.
What could the problems be?

THe coolant light is to tell you if tghe coolant reservior has a low level . It does not make the eng run bad.THE EML also known as the check eng light is indicating a problem with the eng performance . You need to have the codes pulled . Post back with results.
