Dodge Van shuts off when put in gear Sign In

Year of vehicle = 1997
Make of vehicle = Dodge

Model of vehicle = Ram Van 2500 (mark iii)
Engine size = 3.9l V6
Mileage/Kilometers = 200,900

When I first start the van up, if I don't step on the gas it shuts off. After stepping on the gas and reving it up for a bit, when I put it in gear (either reverse or drive) it will shut off. Sometimes it may take 4 or 5 times of doing this to get pulled out of the parking space. It has also been shutting off on the occasion at stop lights.

So far I have tuned the van up, and bought a new air idle control. I have also checked the transmission fluid. None of this has helped.

Any suggestions?

You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC.

I'll try cleaning the throttle body. I replaced the IAC a month ago.
