Dashboard died after battery got a jump Sign In

My car Nissan Maxima 2000 V6 is leaking acid from the top and every morning I need to get a jump in order to use it, once I get the jump, as long as I as turn it on every few hours it turn on fine. If I leave it overnight, then I think the battery completely drains and I need to get a jump (which has been done without a problem) in the mornings. However 2 days ago, while I was getting a jump suddenly the dashboard lit up and stopped displaying, a small amount of smoke came from the motor I guess (the smoke came from the a/c - heater vents) the speedometer, RPM, gas, temp, etc gauges are not working, nor is the radio, hazard lights or a/c.
I know I need to get the battery replaced but when I call Walmart they said I need to check the dashboard first or that it could be the alternator then get the battery replaced...
Can you help?

You should call your mechanic. Walmart doesn't do electrical diagnosis. Something shorted or fried itself behind the dash. Someone is going to have to get in there and do some circuit testing to see what happened. Your probably going to need a battery too if it is leaking acid. If the battery keeps dying and you keep jumping it to get it started, eventually the alternator is going to get tired of charging a dead battery and have a heart attack.

Might be a good idea to leave the battery disconnected until you drive it to have it looked at. You don't want something shorting out and catching on fire while your sleeping.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
