Crank Pulley Installed Wrong Sign In

1992 Dodge Stealth R/T DOHC Non-Turbo A/T: Had car in shop for oil leaks, engie mounts, fluids & tune-up, but ran PERFECT! Addtl work done included Timing Belt & Crank Pulley. When got it back, ran & sounded like S#*T! Different shop confirmed Crank Pulley installed 8 DEGREES OFF! Convinced VALVES, prob more, are SCREWED! ALL INPUT/OPINIONS Welcome. Thanks.

Re: Crank Pulley Installed Wrong Sign In

? Take it back where this was done. If this second shop was so great why didn't you go there in the first place. Why are you here if you had it to a shop it's now their problem and if really put a crank pulley on wrong, a new one would probably only go on at all if key was busted or not used and perhaps you don't want to deal with that shop anymore?

Re: Crank Pulley Installed Wrong Sign In

Got back from shop 1st time after 10 weeks! Only after complaining to corporate office. Could tell it was not right when still in their parking lot. Told me to drive it around for the wknd. Took back that Tuesday. Got back 2nd time after 6 more weeks & bitching to corporate. NO CHANGE! Listened to motor with a stethoscope & got opinion from several friends, took back to shop manager for 1 last opportunity to listen & still claimed motor mounts were the cause. Took to 2nd shop. They inspected & found pulley 8 degrees off, cam seals not done right & new timing belt oil soaked, AGAIN! Plus a leaking head gasket, which should've been caught during initial work, if wad leaking then. 1st shop TOTALLY INCOMPETENT! Don't want them touching it again! Corporate willing to refund ONLY $300 & won't pay 2nd shops quote of approx $2500. That's just fix 1st shop's mistakes. But with pulley off 8 degrees, valves & more most likely trashed! A remanufactured motor is $2750 + $1600 labor. This is prob more than value of car, but should not matter!

Re: Crank Pulley Installed Wrong Sign In

Yikes - 10 weeks? You mean the had the car 2+1/2 months to mess up? OMG - Not here to judge but that's all wrong by itself and now you seem pretty sure a head gasket needed so IMO all that work if done right was about a waste.
Have you consulted your Atty. General's office or equivalent and have papers for all this? You call if going legal can work or help.
Hey - know that I am not here nor site involved or know anything about your issue except if correct it stinks.
First clue with work like that: In a week or less what's taking so long or go get the car to go some other place. If somehow they are so busy they can't then don't take on more work.

Whole thing is a total mess - sorry it's happening,

Re: Crank Pulley Installed Wrong Sign In

Hey Tom. Oh, i totally agree this is a total CLUSTER F#*%! Actually, 16 weeks, closer to 4 MONTHS! 10 wks 1st time, 6 wks 2nd time. Not only does this prove their incompetence, also, most likely, were/are covering-up something?! Am gathering as much info & evidence to support a case & file a civil suit. It shows u r retired now, what is ur auto repair background?

Re: Crank Pulley Installed Wrong Sign In

It's not about MY background it's about your vehicle and what you are going to do about it. This isn't even mechanical is outrageous time for nothing but great expense to you. The credentials you need is the workers at that shop. It's not required to have any tech training at all or certifications in almost any place I know of much like a carpenter and some other trades. It clearly shows both lack of know how and bad biz practice except for making out a bill for you!
That's enough sitting time to cause its own problems if you just parked a normal, well running vehicle - ridiculous.
Said I/we can't judge this at all - ONE because you let them have it that long - why?
Seriously you should have been screaming for you car in a week max and an explanation at that. If YOU said take all the time you need for some reason IDK what to say.

Chase it down. You've paid and really nothing is fixed and worse needs most all over again the way I see it,

Re: Crank Pulley Installed Wrong Sign In

If the timing belt was off that much you could easily have bent valves but you won't know for sure unless you correct it and do a compression test or a leakdown test.
