Clicking sound in reverse after front wheel axle repair Sign In

Toyota Tercel 1993 DX, 120 ooo miles, good conditon
Clicking sound after front wheel axle repair when in reverse gear and driving.
The front axle has just been replaced. There was no clicking sound before in reverse gear when driving.
Is it possible the mechanic did something wrong? forgot something.
I was told, I need a axle replacement when the mechanical clutch was replaced?
I am thinking of going back to mechanic, but what should I say?

If you didn't have the noise before the axle repair, then definitely take it back to that shop. He did something wrong.

? Chris: You posted this AND a shifting issue for this vehicle. What is the time line of events for these problems? They could be related to a failed driveshaft replacement job especially if both issues came up at the same time.

Axle (a half shaft with two CV joints) could be bad and make noise out of the box. I swear as they are so called rebuilt only the obvious of two CV joints will be replaced and new boots and sell it again as all checked out. Not convinced myself, the real test is once in a car again.

Either way should go back it didn't work out as HT said done wrong and I add part issue possible. Check the shifting stuff while there as well,

I had brought my car to the mechanic in for the shifting issue.
The mechanic said he thinks it might be a a clutch problem as he did not experience it himself .
While replacing the clutch ( which then did not fix my shifting issue ), I asked him to inspect the car for hazards.
He said my front axle has to be replaced, it looks really bad. That is how this came about.
In did not have the clicking sound in reverse before.
I only have heard sometimes in first gear some other sound in the front.
So I guess I will bring it back to the mechanic .However I a still at a loss with the shifting issue.
