Civic stalled in high water :( Sign In

There was a heavy rain last night and my 99 honda civic stalled in high water. The water was only about 12 inches deep. My boyfriend and I pushed it into a gas station and after a while restarted it. It seemed to be running ok, but we didnt wanna risk driving it so we walked home and waited till this morning. This morning we checked the air filter, oil, and transmission fluid and there was no visible water. So we proceeded to drive it home but it keeps stalling every half a block. It will start back up but shortly after it will die again (the lights dont go out). Does the damage sound serious? Please Help!

Arggh! Avoid that when at all possible. 12" water is bad but moving in it can make it all worse.

Good news is it runs and because it was warm with your description the first weak links would be high voltage parts like coil(s), plug wires and the items that carry anything high voltage. Even low voltage items like relays if underwater could be the issue right now.

Straighten this out fast. Re-check fluids for water or just change them if worried.

Much depends on exactly how and what got dunked not just wet. It may have some future brake problems, low motors like the starter, bearings and front end joints can take splash but don't like being submerged.

Again - do get this to run smoothly, not stall and give it a run when things are checked and cross your fingers not much happened more than something simple.

Hard to say but you should know what was unhappy about that within six months or so - arggh!
