Check Radiatior Level & Fuel Cap Warnings Sign In

I have an 02 Caddy Deville. The Check radiator light displays when the car is on, but the radiator is full and the overflow. . Also just recently the Check fuel cap light came on. It had about 4 gallons of gas in it before I filled it up, but the light still displays. I did notice after filling it up about a gallon or so had leaked out. I dont think I overfilled it because I stopped pumping after the pump clicked. I couldnt see exactly where the fuel was running from except its was either on the top or higher up on the sides of the gas tank. Can I reset these codes or is this a dealer problem. I know they build theses cars know so you have to take then back for everything.

You can reset the codes by going into an AutoZone and they will reset them for free if you don't live in California but that isn't going to fix your fuel leak and the light will likely come back on for whatever reason it came on in the first place. Just because you shut the alarm clock off doesn't mean you can go back to sleep.

Just a follow up. More than likely you'll have a P0442 small evap leak. A fuel cap is one of the more common things to cause that but not the only thing. If that is the code and I'm going off memory so the # may be wrong but if it comes up small evap you could try replacing the cap and clearing the code. If it doesn't come back then that was probably the cause, if it does come back then the system would need to be diagnosed.

GM has a problem with their coolant level sensors, more than likely yours is bad. It should be in one of the rad tanks. If you change it yourself, you will lose some coolant...........

To add a bit more: I don't think fuel should come out of a good fuel cap no matter what. Expansion is expected to a point and the evaporative emission system should handle the expanded vapors but will over tax it if too full with liquid fuel.

Radiator pressure cap on tank which this MAY use on the recovery bottle is NOT always telling of the cooling system really being full. If on radiator itself that's a better clue. It that style with cap removed just pinching a radiator hose shouldn't push air bubbles into that tank and if so radiator is not full. The reason why to be found,

The fuel didnt come out the cap..it came from the tank somewhere...But the CHECK FUEL CAP warning didnt come on until there wasabout 4 gallons of gas in the tank. I've change the cap already so I guess there's a leak whereever the gas leaked from.

You know I guess I missed the leak part.

What you could do would be to fill the tank again. If you can spot where it's leaking from and repair the leak, odds are pretty good you will fix the evap code as well........

You should really look after your radiator so that it does not give you problem. Your radiator should be kept cool so that there is no oil or fuel leakage. Keep your car always in a working position so that no carbon is deposited inside the radiator.
