I have a 1969 Lincoln Mark III. It starts right up every time. Reverse works immediately every time. If the car is left for a few hours or overnight it will not move forward when put in drive. I usually just hold the gas pedal in slightly for a few minutes and then it finally begins to move after a while. Then i can run errands and park it and get out and get back in etc all day with no issues. Accelerates fine and goes between 0 and 60 smoothly.

Obviously i can live with this since i dont drive it excessively but i would like to know what it is and maybe resolve it especially if its the beginning of something worse.

Any ideas about what might cause this? Thanks.

Could be the forward clutch seals are hard and allowing fluid pressure to leak out until the fluid warms up to soften the seals. To resolve the problem the transmission has to come apart and seals replaced. Might as well overhaul and replace the friction discs and check for any other worn out components while your in there.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
