Car wont completely start...it will turn over and start for 2 seconds Sign In

Hello I recently made a down payment on a 1997 Pontiac Gand Am GT with a V6 190,000 miles on it The night that I purchased it i test drpve it and everything was fine noticed the minor issues but nothing i couldnt handle. After I signed all the paper work i went to go turnt he car off so they could document something and the key wouldnt come out within 45 minutes they forced it out I got in it and drove home. The next day i got in it and drove around and when i got homne it again wouldnt give me my key and it loked up and wouldnt let me turn the ignition either forward or back... i called the car dealership an they came and had t towd. They said they called a locksmith and he came and rebuilt the ignition switch. Well I drovew to go get my car it started fie everything worked fine i got home and as soon as I turned thecar off it did it again keystucka ndwouldnt let me turn it. So it was towed for a second time. They installea a new igniton switch wich also came witha differn key their theory was that the security system was locking everything up. So i go my car back parked it and wnt on with my day well the past 2 days it hasnt wanted to start and the theft security light has been blinking at me I went to the dealer yesterdy and complaind about this. They said you know it could be that you have a bad battery and whats happenning is that its ding in te midde of the night and tripping your security system. So I got a new battery...not new to me but one mch better then the one that was in it. The previous day my neighor ran his diagnosis computer on it ad it said that the 5 cylinder was misfiring.. I told them this yesterday they hooked ther computer up to it(I was watching over his shoulder) and it found nothing wrong. Well this morning ti went out to start it and the same thing is happening i turn the key it turns over is on for 2 seconds and ios gone again i did it so manyb tmes i flooded it. I did the online security reset with is to turn yur key to the on position wait 15 minutes turn off and then start... tats not even working... please help Im not paying for repairs my dealer is and i need the solution before thy get tired of paying for everything.

The security system will not prevent you from turning the key. I suspect there was a problem with a shift interlock solenoid in the steering column and forcing it has created all these Passlock problems. The dealership should be able to resolve this.

Do you mean it stays on solid?
If so then for some reason it has gone into theft mode?
You can try the relearn procedure and see if it’ll recognize the ignition switch.
First off make sure the battery is strong enough not to go dead during the procedure. If you’re unsure put a trickle charger on the battery before you begin.
Now try and start the car as normal; but when it stalls leave the ignition on; don’t touch it.
Now wait for the theft light to go out; this could take anywhere from 5 to 40 minutes to happen. Once it goes out turn the ignition off; wait a couple minutes and then try restarting.
If the light won’t go out or it continues to stall call your dealer again and have it towed back to them.

Since you already tried the relearn procedure, they may have damaged the wiring or sensor when they had it apart. There is a 30 minute relearn that you should try which is just repeating the 10 minute procedure 3 times.

SO the dealership finlly caved in and deacided take it to their mechanic... i droppd it off last night and he noticed this morning that it wouldnt start he too steering colum apart and said that he messed with some wires and it came on wit no problem then he said he dug a lil deeper and noticded the wire were messed up(like you said) he said that whoever put the lock cylider in didnt put it i right..... just called the dealer ship and they said it was a malfuntioning part..lol so i know whos lieng... but yeah they are getting a new lock cylinder set from beatirice nebraska to lincoln nebraska thats where my car is and im in ithaca nebraska...so for the 6th time hopefully i get it back with no problems... sad that a man who calls himself a mechanic and works at a dealership coudnt diagnos that himself and it had to go to an outside mechanic. so hoefully this works.... if it doesnt any suggestions on what i should do? But i want to say that a personfrom the internet new so mush more than a man employed as a mehanic... thank you alot ifu wouldnt of given me advice i wouldnt of ben able to tell them what i thouht it as.... thanks and i will keep u posted on how the car is whe i get it back

It's amazing, isn't it? You would think a dealer tech would know what he was doing.

It almost sounds like this is a car lot she is dealing with and not a dealership in the sense that we think of a dealer.....(Man I sure hope this isn't a GM dealer.......lol)
