Toyota Corolla 2005
96,000 Miles..not sure of the engine size.
Hi,My boyfriend borrowed my car last night he says it started making funny noises.I checked the car today and the oil light was on.I added 2 quarts of oil to the car.The light went off for 2 minutes.As I started to drive I heard the sound again from the passenger side of the car and when I stop too long at lights the car just dies.It always started back up.I was in a unfamiliar part of town so I just prayed that I could get it back home.When I got home I checked the oil stick and it did not seem like I put Any oil in the car,but there does not appear to be a leak...even though I drove it after I put the new oil in so I'm not sure about that.
I called a street mechanic and he said that it may be the oil pump or the motor.If any one has experience with this type of problem does that sound about right?I'm sure that I wont know until I get there,but I'm trying to get a ballpark estimate of how much this could cost;in case I have to start borrowing some money.
One more thing please.does this sound like it could be a basic repair or should I take it to a shop? Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid you have some very serious issues now. It may have started out with something that could have been repaired reasonably but after driving it without sufficient oil, you have likely done serious internal engine damage. I suggest you have it towed to a competent mechanic for evaluation.

Oh yes,when the car stopped at the lights a few times the battery light came on too if that helps any...

Thanks guys and you were Right! The alley mechanic could not fix it.We took it to a regular mechanic and he told us to not drive it at ALL and to get it towed to an engine specialty shop..just a small update in case anyone has a similar problem. Love this forum!!!!
