We have a 2000 Ford Taurus SE (V-6, 24 valve engine) w/ 70,000 miles- love the car- have never had any problems with it. Out of the blue it just started sputtering in the last week; last night my husband shut off the a/c as a test and the problem disappeared. Only problem is we are in Florida and have to use the a/c. Any idea of what the problem might be? Thanks for your assistance!!

By "sputtering" do you feel it's like misfiring or just idle is too low? Any noises associated with this? The compressor takes a bit of energy to operate and idle should be compensated automatically when it's on. If excessive there's a problem in that maybe compressor is working much too hard or failing, or computer isn't able to raise idle. Just guessing so far but it should be tended to asap as if it needs A/C work it's better to catch it early, T
