Car overheats around 2pm-ish?
ok guys, here is a riddle:
95 mercury sable 3.0 sedan
replaced in last month or so:
radiator (but did not flush)
starter
spark plugs
wireset
dist cap/rotor
fuel filter
thermostat/gasket
Car is fine for a while mostly evenings and mornings, but then, around 2-3pm it reaches normal temp within 5-8 mins which tells me water pump is working.
Today was the 2nd day temp gauge went almost to 'H'. while driving in the city. it went down just a notch but stayed there. Yesterday when it did it first time I had just driven the day before to the foot hills so I'm not sure if that might have triggered some rust or something to get loose in the coolant system.
Today I replaced the thermostat and refilled some of the lost coolant directly into the radiator right around 2pm. Took the car for a drive and went from normal to close to H for the remaining time.
I waited around just now 8pm, refilled the radiator some more (it took perhaps 1/10 of my prestone) and put some more on the reservoir. This time once again the car reached normal temp within 5-8 mins and had heat blowing and could adjust it from cool to hot just fine. Took it for a drive and not once did it try to go close to H as it tried earlier...
I don't want to throw any more money into this, but I'm not sure if I may just need a professional flush, or else???
yes the radiator does work.
When it acts normal, it kicks on briefly and then stop as it should
when it is acting up, it kicks in and does not stop
I'm also wondering if driving the car on cold before it has an opportunity to warm up to normal may be contributing to this???

Whats the condition of the coolant?.. There where problems with impeller on the water pump decaying and sending crap through the system. I would do pressure and chemical test first since it's quicker

What is the name of that chemical test? Is it the one that checks for 'combustion' traces in the coolant fluid? At least that's what I was told by this mech guy...

Or.......... if all else fails, you could just change the clock so the car thinks it's 7AM.

Lol I did actually change the time! See, I am thinking if there were leaks in the head gasket or engine block I would then get this overheating more consistently.. Something tells me that perhaps having added coolant directly to radiator mY have created air bubbles???
