Car lurches forward and the idle is erratic Sign In

 Hi,
I have a manual 2003 Mazda Protege5. A few weeks ago, it started lurching forward when I start off from a stop and while I'm going slow in first gear. It also idles very erratically, almost dieing sometimes, when I come to a stop. It seems to be getting worse the more I drive it. Any ideas?

Thanks

Without a lot more information and some test results, it'll be hard to help.
The one thing I can think of is check the air intake tube between the air cleaner and engine. Make sure it is intact with no tears in the ribbing, where un-metered air can enter. You may need to remove it so that you can stretch it out to see any tears.

If the check engine light happens to be on, have the engine controller scanned to find out what trouble code(s) it is storing. Then write down the trouble code number(s) and post them.

The check engine light is on. I'll take it in somewhere and get it checked out. Thank you for the replies.

It was a tear in the air intake tube. I looked at it today in the daylight, and didn't even have to take it out - the tear was HUGE. Unfortunately the auto parts store won't have the new tube in until Tuesday, so I wrapped duct tape around it to get me through until then, and now it's running just fine. Smile Thank you again.
