I have an '03 Dodge Stratus. New engine 1.5 years ago, new transmission 1 year ago and lots of other new parts.
When it's wet outside and only in the mornings, the car hesitates and the RPM gauge jumps. My mechanic said he noticed it happens when going from 1st to 2nd shift but is unsure what the problem is since he checked all the fluids and everything looks normal. In the afternoon, the car runs perfectly...never happens then. I almost got in a accident on my way to work, it happened while going 70 mph on the highway. Any ideas at all? The check engine light has also been on... emission vac I think

Connection at the crank sensor could be suspect.

"while going 70 mph on the highway" really - might want to operate legally, save money.
someone will advise on the codes.
which engine 2.0, 2.4 or 2.7?

Code says camshaft position sensor. Bought a new one, car wouldn't start once the new one was on. Mechanic put the old one on and it started right up. Car is still doing the same thing.
Engine is 2.4

What is the trouble code number? Does your mechanic have a lab scope? Can he capture the crank and cam signals when the problem is occurring at the PCM connector? If you replace a cam or crank sensor on one of those use dealer only parts. Seen lots of issues with the aftermarket position sensors. If the cam sensor had oil leaking out of it, you should also replace the sensor's connector. A good drive ability tech should be able to figure that one out.

post all the codes - knowing codes will help us help you
why did you change cam sensor?
Did you get sensor from Chrysler dealer?

the keyword is CIRCUIT - chancing the sensor would NOT be step 1.
did you check the connector, wiring, signal etc BEFORE spending ?
A code NEVER says change a part.

I didn't check anything, my mechanic did. I do not work on cars, just posting for some additional help.
It seems like ordering a part from the dealer instead of an after market part did the trick. The car is working perfectly but the real test is driving it tomorrow morning when it was guaranteed to act up before. Will post an update afterwards.
