Can't turn off alarm - VW Polo 1999 6N Sign In

Hi,

I have a 1999 VW Polo 1.4 CL (6N), today when I went to use the car I pressed the button on the fob (it's a separate fob from the keys) which usually unlocks the central locking and turns off the alarm. Nothing happened, the lights on the fob flashed but the car didn't unlock. I unlocked the car with the key instead, which opened the central locking, but I can't turn off the alarm (even if I start the engine), so every time the door is opened the alarm goes off. I changed the batteries in the fob, still nothing. I tried to reset the fob (following instructions online), nothing. I called out the breakdown peeps to see if the alarm could be deactivated, the man came out and said no, because if he takes out the fuse for the alarm then the immobiliser will stop the car from starting. Any ideas on what it could be, or how I can turn the alarm off to get it to a garage to fix it as the car is undriveable, well technically I could drive it, with flashing lights and an alarm going off, but have thought better of it Laugh

I have for now, admitted defeat and relocked the central locking with the key, secure in the knowledge that the alarm does work.....all the time!Frown
Advance thanks,
Tina

Re: Can't turn off alarm - VW Polo 1999 6N Sign In

Just an update, frantic searching on Ebay to see if I could buy a new fob (incase that was the problem), led to a picture of an identical fob (Scorpian Alarm), so it wasn't a factory fitted system. Further Googling 'Scorpian Alarm problems' led to a post about how they occasionally can loose frequency/communication with the responder thing in the car, anyway the answer said to reset the communication by pressing both buttons on the fob together till the LED lights (on the fob) flashes/blinks then remains on. Wait for the light to go off press the button on the fob to deactivate the alarm and unlock the car, then start the engine with the key and hey presto both units now 'talk' to each other.

I am now a very happy person Cool (and have probably saved a few pounds!), so I have posted this just incase it may help someone with the same problem.
