Cant remove last NUT, BOLT TURNS as well! plz hlp Sign In

I am trying to change my breaks, got new rotor and breaks, the driver side is grinding bad, not the passenger..I just changed the breaks last year... but thats not what this post is about

I got ALL the nuts off except the LAST ONE, it wouldnt turn like it was stripped.. so I kept trying, finally it started turning, I turned and turned it and it wouldnt come off.. then I noticed the bottom of the BOLT has an M on it.. so I turned the nut to see if the bolt was ALSO turning, and in FACT it is.. I cant even get the WHEEL COVER off.. much less the wheel.. I have no idea what is stopping the thing from coming off.. if the bolt is broken.. what is holding it on there?

something I just now thought of.. Im not sure how these STUDS / BOLTS work.. but could it have came LOOSE?? meaning it wont PULL OUT cause its behind the metal of the axil or whatever? I dotn know if that makes sense to you guys or not?

but what can I do to get this wheel off.. i dont have many tools.. but can get access to some

You have a big problem that you aren't going to be able to resolve yourself. The studs are pressed into the hub and have apparently stripped out because the lug nut is likely cross threaded. I would get it to a shop and be prepared that you may have to buy a new wheel because it may have to get destroyed getting the wheel off.

I read that you could take a drill and start with a small bit and start in the center of the bolt.. and proceed to bigger drill bits? to get the nut off? would that work? my other front tire has a bolt missing, and I aint had any problems with it, where it has like 4 other nuts holding it on.. if I could just get the tired off.. i could be good..

for about $60 you can get a small MAPP / oxygen torch at sears,it'll get frozen bolts nice and hot, I bought one years ago and have used it numerous times, the oxygen tanks are expensive, that last lug nut MAY come off if you get it ruby red, if you get that last bolt off the front wheel you may be able to put a new one through the bearing hub, stack some washers and tighten it up., or the hole it goes through may be stripped, then you'll need a new bearing, of course you can always bring to a shop, I always tell them that I want to be able to get my lugs off, some of these geniuses get that impact wrench and don't know when to stop, two things they don't teach in a school, common sense and common decency

If you have a hubcap o it or an alloy wheel, don't even think about putting a torch near it.

If you can see the backside of the hub, you might be able to get a tip in there and weld the lug stud to the hub flange. Weld it in there really good and then break the lug stud off with an impact gun if the nut crossed.

If people would actually torque the lug nuts to factory specs, you wouldn't see pulled threads and crossed nuts.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I got the hub cap off.. its plastic, so around the nut and bolt I just broke off the plastic so the cap would come off.. i pulled the tire off as much as possible hoping it would push against that bolt and let me turn the nut, NO GO.. my father in law is the one that changed that side last year and put the tire on.. the side that i done myself (passenger) is fine.. im going to take it by somewhere tomorrow and ask them what they would charge just to get the bolt off.. i wouldnt think it would be THAT MUCH.. the passenger side only has 4 bolts out of the 5, so im not stressin too much if the driver side only has 4.. if it was the kind that only had 4 to begin with I would be more weary about only have 3 holding the tire on. thanx for all the advice.. hopefully ill get it resolved for not too much

It won't bother you at all until you are stuck on the side of the road with a flat tire. Installing a new stud would be the easy part. Getting the old one out is the hard part. The best way will likely be with a cut-off wheel.
