Can't pump fuel into tank - a weird one for you :) Sign In

Hey all,

Thanks so much for the help with my battery. This isn't a question, and it may be old news to all of you, but in case it's not and in case you might get a laugh, I thought I'd share it by way of thanks. :)

Two years ago I had trouble putting gas in my car (2003 Toyota Camry). It acted like the tank was always full, and the pump would shut off if I opened it full on. I had to just barely let the gas pump slowly in, and it was taking me about 5-10 minutes to pump in about $2 worth (and you know that's not much gas!) It was incredibly frustrating, took forever to get gas in it to go anywhere!

And of course everyone thought I was nuts. Surely I must not be handling the gas pump right (and I may be a girl, but I've been pumping my own gas all my life!).

Well, a little youtube search turned up something weird, and it happened to be a Camry. Otherwise I'd probably never have found it! I don't know if there's something about them that makes them susceptible to this or what, but ... it was a dirt dauber. It had built a nest and was blocking the vent, and that was keeping me from being able to add fuel

Just thought I'd share. Like I said, i don't know if it's a totally weird thing or if you'll all shake your heads and say "yeah, we knew that!" but i wanted to say thanks. :)

Actually that's not uncommon at all. We see numerous questions about that.

Ah, ok then. I should have come here instead of asking around when it happened. ;) I was hoping it might provide some amusement.

Everyone seemed to think I must be doing something wrong with the gas pump and it wasn't possible that I "couldn't pump gas in the tank."

But fortunately I figured that one out, and it was fine after cleaning it. Found a new dirt dauber nest under the hood today too ... pesky little things. I have a bunch of ducks, geese, and chickens ... they really should be eating more of the bugs, LOL.

(Oh, and my apologies about the link!)

Was it this hose that your little friendly bug made a home in?
