Camry shut off while driving Sign In

I have a 97 Toyota Camry, I changed the oil, like I always have every 3,000 miles. I drove it over 100 miles after changing the oil and it suddenly shut off one day while driving around a curve. It wouldn't start back up. Towed it back home, checked the oil and it was quite a bit over the full line. Didn't touch the oil yet and it now will sometimes start and sometimes will not, once when it did start I drove it up the lane and it was a bit loud, as soon as it shifted into second gear though the engine shook very bad and I had to turn it around. I havn't touched it since then. Any idea what this could be?

is the oil milky? Can you smell gasoline in it?

I havn't had a chance to drain the oil so I don't know if it is milky, but when I remove the cap on the engine and smell it I can definitely smell gasoline, it's pretty strong too.

Re: 97 Camry shut off while driving - gas odor in oil Sign In

Arggh! Gas in oil doesn't take much to thin it so bad it will wash cylinder walls, and have a hard time maintaining oil pressure. Hard to say how diluted it is without measuring what comes out.

Injectors could be leaking down badly or perhaps computer is being told engine is VERY cold by error and dumping extra fuel when it shouldn't.

Got to get that oil out and find the source of fuel getting in fast or could be game over for the engine! Somewhere at around a quart too full it could also splash confusing/causing all sorts of operational noises and problems. A must find and fix now IMO,
