The newer PCMs are flashed, the older OBD I ones had a removable PROM that transferred to the new one.... APPLICATION: All OBD-ll(96 and newer) GM vehicles quipped with the PASSLOCK anti thet system. PROBLEM: Vehicle will not start after the Original ECM has been replaced. (It has been already) CAUSE: The original ECM has a security code(PASSLOCK) stored in its memory that matches the vehicles instrument panel cluster or security module(if so equipped). the replacement ECM can only recieve the PASSLOCK code after it is installed (I installed it already) in the vehicle and relearn performed on the ECM. SOLUTION: Because the procedure is vehicle specific, it will be nessar to reference the vehicle service manual for the correct procedure. ( Thing is that I don't have the service manual to find out how to do it).
