Bypassing the AC Compressor Sign In

Frown I have a 94 Chevy Astro Van, 4L and two wheel drive. The a/c compressor went out and tore my belt off. Can I bypass the compressor completely by using a shorter belt? The car starts when not attached to compressor pulley. This van is old, lots of miles but runs well except for this. The guy I have working on it doesnt want to have to take off the compressor, because it is a bitch to get to. I am a mom and need my van....which is easier to use a smaller belt or to put on a bypass pulley?
thanks!

Re: Bypassing the AC Compressor Sign In

They only make those bypass pulleys for certain vehicles. hopefully, yours is one of them.
