Have you tried any other spare keys you have for this? Are you jiggling the key while trying to insert it? Have you tried spraying a small amount of graphite lube into the lock cylinder trying to get it to free up enough to get the key in?

My 97 Landcruiser all of a sudden wouldn't allow the key to turn in the ignition. Tried all keys - original and spares. Turned steering wheel l to r as I tried to turn key. Someone told me it might be the alarm system. I disconnected the negative terminal from the battery and reattached it again. Then I opened the unlocked car to set off alarm and allowed the alarm to recycle and reset itself. Voila! The key turned.
