Break Fluid Leak Sign In

Hi,

I have a 2004 Dodge Intrepid with a 2.7L engine. My car is leaking power steering fluid. I looked under the car and it looks like it is coming from a small hose/pipe at what appears to be the front of the radiator. That seems like a weird place for it to be leaking, but thats what it appears to be. I have a link with a picture I took using my phone below. You can clearly see the fluid is running down the pipe/hose. Is that a low spot that the fluid runs to or is that indeed where it is leaking from? I turned the car on and it whined quite loudly. When I turn the wheel it begins to whine even louder. Does anyone have any idea why it is leaking from that location and what the problem may be. I would also like to know if anyone has any idea how much it will cost to fix this problem.

Thanks

That is a power steering line going up to an oil cooler but it's still power steering fluid. That's your problem and you'll have to repair it.

I'm going to take it to a mechanic. Do you have any idea how much that will cost/how much labor will be involved?

That just depends how he fixes it. He can cut out the bad section of pipe and repair it with fuel line pretty cheaply. If he replaces the cooler, it could get pricey.

Well my car has 156k miles on it. So I'm guessing they will replace the cooler too? Do you have any idea what pretty pricey is? Sorry I'm being a pain in the ass, but I am a college student with limited financial means so I would like to get a general idea.

Re: Break Fluid Leak Sign In

The mileage doesn't mean anything. Just tell them to patch it with some hose if possible. As long as there is enough pipe left there to do it and it's clamped real good, it will work fine. It may not last 10 years but who cares.

Thanks man. I don't feel quite as bad about it. It happened Friday night and I've been worried about it.
