Is there even power to that switch? Not common to me on this vehicle but other Fords have had short wires to the switch which would pull on wires in the plug in rendering it useless. Check that plug before going nuts chasing down elsewhere,

Check fuse #11, 10 amp fuse in the under dash fuse panel; if that’s ok, test for power going to and leaving (when pedal applied) at the brake position switch. The light green/red wire should have power at all times; the red/light green, when pedal applied.
From there the red/light green supplies input (power) to the Rear Electronic Module (REM). The REM is located in the right rear quarter panel. If you have (brake pedal applied) power to the REM; then it gets a little more complicated and I suggest taking the vehicle in and have it diagnosed.
The ERM with the proper inputs from other devices is what actually turns the brake lights on. Is this a problem with the REM or an input; that has to be determined?
Whatever happened with a few feet of wire, a bulb and a power source; why do we need a computer, to turn the brake lights on; is beyond me?
