Brake light stays on Sign In

Hello! I have a 1990 Chevy Silverado 4x4 with a 350. It runs great and has no check engine light on but the brake light remains on. I was parked for 2 weeks on a hill when the problem occured. Some people say to try to read the codes with a obd 1 scanner but I don't want to pay to do that if it won't give me codes with no check engine light on. I was wondering if it would throw codes even though the light is off or what could cause it to have the brake light remain on. Thanks!

Unless a special model I don't think you'll get tons of info from codes for this exact issue. Is this the RED brake warning light?

It may (if so but make sure brake fluid is properly filled. Near sure same light will light if parking brake which was likely used on a hill for two weeks in a 21 YO truck and may not have released fully.

See if cables are free to return to home position. Look for loose cables underside and if parking brake pedal isn't all the way back up. Replace any sticky ones that don't fully release if so,

Look around your master cylinder and you should see a flat module in the area that belongs the the rear wheel ABS. If you find the module, unplug it and see if the light goes out. On those older ABS units, they didn't have a separate ABS light and a lot of owners didn't even realize that they have ABS at all.
