Okay, so here is the deal. i just bought a 2003 CVPI from a dealer on Thursday of last week, test drove it for 10 miles, no lights, no leaks, ran great and all. Then yesterday the first problem arose. I noticed a funky smelling fluid coming from the rear driver side area. Took it to Midas and had it "inspected" and they said that it was the Axle Seal, needs to be replaced and possibly the bearing. Upon reading about it I noticed its a general problem that all CV's had or have. About $350 at Midas and Car-X to get fixed, that is fine i guess :\.

Anywho, here is the other problem, so after I took it to Midas, the battery light started flashing intermittently. So I figured it was the battery right? Took it to Advance Auto parts to have it tested... battery fine. Guy said to clean the terminals and cables, as they were pretty badly corroded. So I did tonight after I got off work. I cleaned the hell out of em, and wiped everything down, reinstalled the cables to the batt posts. Then I decided to turn on the car and take it around the block to test drive it to see if the batt light came on and sure enough.... It did, along with the ABS light and check engine light then I drove it up the hill and the headlights and interior lights flashed on and off several times before it finally crapped out. As it was crapping out I luckily got to the top of the hill and pulled into a Monro Muffler/ Brake center.

So my question is, was it something I did, or was it the alternator crapping out and had nothing to do with the battery??! Anyways, thanks in advance for your answers.

Contrary to common belief, the battery light has nothing to do with the condition of the battery. It is an indication of whether the battery is being recharged or not which yours appears not to be. Most likely a bad alternator. Charge the battery back up and fix the charging system and see how that effects the other lights.

Yeah, I have also heard from a couple other people that the voltage regulator may be the problem as well, and once that goes the alternator may soon follow suit. Can I replace the voltage regulator or should I just replace the alternator?

The voltage regulator is incorporated inside the alternator.

I've had the same problem with the battery light and losing power. We've replaced the alternator, ignition, starter, a part of the ground, cleaned the battery posts etc. Still having power issues. Any advice?

Please start a new question of your own. We can't address 2 different vehicles in the same question.
