Hello all!

I have an '02 Impala 3.8L that is usually great. I just finished swapping plugs and wires and started the car to make sure everything was good.

I revved the engine to listen and it sounded great. I guess I revved it a little more than I normally would and when the tach got to four grand the car started acting like it had a rev limiter on it. It started puffing - the best way to describe it because that is what it sounded like - a big puff out of the exhaust.

It would not go past four grand for anything. I tried just to see if I could get it to level out. I took the car for a ride and punched it and it was fine on the road.

Any ideas on what could be going on here?

Thanks for reading!

Jim

As you stated your hitting the rev limiter. The rev limiter is only activated in park or neutral.

I did not realize that this car had a rev limiter on it.

Thank you very much for the quick reply!

Jim
