Do I need a new shifter or can you buy the button? Any idea on part and labor cost?

I bought the shift knob assembly on ebay for 23.00. I'm not that handy and don't want to mess up the install. Any idea how much a local private repair shop might charge? Half hour labor or less perhaps?
