99 chevy pickup tailight problem Sign In

Hello:
I have a 1999 chevy 2500 3/4 ton pickup truck with aftermarket tailights.
When i turn the left blinker on both of the left tailight signals blink
(when only the lower tailight should blink.)
When i turn the right signal on, the leftside blinkers shut off.
I replaced the bulbs, and sanded a new contact for the chassis ground.
Neither has made any difference.
Could the turn signal switch be bad or is the tailight board frying out?
THANK YOU

Have these aftermarket lights ever worked correctly?

As far as I know they worked well, they came with the truck when
we bought it used.

So you don't know if they ever worked since being installed?

These have a history of having bad tail light assemblies. The easiest thing to do would be to take them out and check your wires. There should be one for the stop/turn signals and one for the park lights. Just get a test light and check the wires. If you have power to when the switch is turned, pedal pressed and lights turned on, on the correct sides at the correct times then the boards are bad....

I don't remember for sure which ones come on & which ones don't but just pull the bulbs. 1157 are dual filament bulbs for stop/turn & park and 1156 are singles for park only.. The frt two #s may be different but 57 is dual & 56 single. If both have 57s then they both should come on when the brk is pressed. If it has a 56 then it's park only.....l

Since it was AM assemblies since you got it, it might not have been working correctly from the get go and has just got worse. It would be best to check another truck the same year and see what it does. Like I said, my memory sux and really don't recall if just one or both should come on....

In a nutshell it sounds like you have bad boards.....
