Our 99 pontiac sunfire seemed to be in good working order when we parked it a little over a year ago.

After boosting the battery the engine starts without any problem. When I put the car in gear it will move slowly forward or backward but I have to really rev the engine.

the brake light, abs brake light and parking brake light are all lit up on my dashboard (yes I checked, the parking break is not engaged)

I have checked the brake fluid, transmission fluid and oil and all seem to be okay.

Anyone out there with an idea of what could be causing this?

? This has a separate warning for parking brake than just a red "brake" warning? YOU can't just let a car sit over a year like that and no doubt outdoors, totally dead battery and fuel when this is over may be a problem.

How far did you try to move the thing when running? Can you know if brakes in general are free or locked up from even slight rust and or if parking brake really is off at the wheels not the lever or pedal inside?

You might just be fighting stuck brakes. Can't know unless you check by hoisting and spinning wheels and more about how this car sat in what conditions,

Did you leave the parking brake on all that time?
