when starting the vehicle hot or cold the engine stuggles to turn until i press on the gas. once the vehicle is on it idles low and feels as if its going to die out. while driving its perfectly fine. it seems to be much worse after refueling. I took it into a shop today and they couldnt figure out the problem. when they removed the gas cap as the car was running it started sputtering out. they're possitive its something with the fuel system, but not sure. please help!!

This could be a problem with the EVAP system, vacuum leak, or a dirty or faulty Idle Air Control motor.

I took the vehicle to a local autozone and had them run a code check on the vehicle. it came back as a problem with the fuel tank pressure sensor. but the shop i took it to claimed they couldnt retrieve the same code. they want me to bring it back on monday, so they can drop the gas tank and look further into the problem for $80. would this be wise to do? I'm just worried about spending alot of money when I might not need to.

If it does turn out to be the FTP sensor, the tank will have to come down to replace it. It is mounted on top of the fuel tank module.
Rule of thumb, it you have never replaced the fuel pump for this vehicle, now would be the time.
On my vehicles, whenever I drop a tank, I cut an access panel in the floor. If I ever need to replace another part, I simply do it from inside the vehicle rather than drop the tank again.
