98 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3L 190Kmiles needs all new brakelines because they are rusted Sign In

The Dodge dealers parts diagram for brake lines and hoses is inaccurate and many of the parts are no longer available for our 98 Grand Caravan SE. I purchased what was supposed to be a rear brake line running above the gas tank and instead it actually was one made for coming from the master cylinder. Our break lines are rusted and one has ruptured. All of them need to be replaced. Also the proportioning valve looks like it won't make it through an operation and I need a recommendation for a replacement valve that has worked for someone else. I need either the correct part numbers or alternatives tools, and materials that are tried and true and reasonably priced. JC Whitney sells 3 different coils of brake line material but I was told by Firestone that only lengths of straight line should be used and that unions should be avoided where possible to keep strength. Some areas of the original brake lines have flexible shielded tubing built in which makes it appear to be more of a challenge to duplicate.

We also need instructions on how to drain the gas tank. Siphoning is not working because of all the twists and turns even when using a stiffer hose.

You can't change the proportioning valve. nothing will work besides the OEM part. As far as the metal lines are concerned, you don't purchase them, you have to make them. Just purchase sections of straight line and bend it accordingly. You can't use any compression fittings, all joints have to be flared.

You can get brake line by the roll dirt cheap but need some skills to bend them up just as they were and the flaring tools.
BTW - unions are fine and legal. Compression connecions are NOT!

Definitely not. That's just an adjustable pressure valve. You have a front wheel drive that is likely set up as a "cross bleed" with individual lines for ABS.
It's not going to happen.

But how do I remove the gas from the gas tank when I can't get a siphon in. There is supposed to be a way to cheat the fuel pump. Does anyone know how?

Do you have experience withhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XADAMp4CswM

How full it the tank? It not way too full I think this used a side fill and filler neck that would come out anyway and you should be able to siphon from there,

You really seem to be making more out of this than it really is. I don't see any reason to remove the fuel tank. You can slide lines in wherever they need to be and bend them after. It's nice if they look neat but functional is more important. There shouldn't be any reason not to re-use the proportioning valve. It's solid brass and shouldn't corrode. If the fitting won't come out, cut the line and use a six point socket to get it out. I've never had one that bad.
That line in the video seems fine but probably costs 10 times what regular line costs. They sell galvanized line that isn't very expensive. Either way, unless you live right on the ocean or leave salt all over the bottom of your car, they will last many years.

Chances are even cheap line will out last the vehicle IMO. You can get the longest line and cut them and you get the flare nuts. Buy a short line just for the nuts is cheaper than buying just the flare nuts.

Flaring kit and tubing cutter needed. Even a cheap tubing bender should do. Lines need be out of harms way as already said. Not where you would hoist the vehicle but close to right where they were.

You can't let then rub or rattle around,
