98 Chevy Blazer - A/C Temperature Control Unit Sign In

I went to turn on A/C and nothing...no fan at all and button lights for A/C, recycle air or outside air intake. Went thru this (no a/c) for 2.5 days and occasionally one or both of the outside and recycle air lights would be lit, but still no fan, no a/c and no a/c light lit. I took to mechanic for diagnosis and they said this part is bad and also mentioned the blower module might be affected but they couldn't get to it. They mentioned blower module should have an indication of fuse of 2-4 volts and it was registering 13 volts.

This morning I start up car and the a/c is working along with a/c light now lit and recycle air light on. Now I'm going a bit crazy as I was just about to get this part replaced.

This part (also called a A/C control head) is the "electronic" type vs. the cheaper manual type and is a $450 Chevy part. Now I'm not sure to go ahead and replace this part.

Can anyone shed some light on this problem....is this just the Temperature Control Unit going bad and is intermittently working??? What about the blower module being bad....could this be the real culprit and not the Temp control unit.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Diana

I don't know for sure with this but will say that most of that stuff does not heal and with it being intermittent like you mentioned I wouldn't do it right now as I don't think that's a sure diagnosis. I totally don't understand the voltage drop at the fuse and doubt that. Items that need voltage adjustment is about always done after the fuse. Hit me with a PM and I might be able to direct you to an exact individual who would know what the problem is likely to be. Never mind the cost of the part - some of those things are very labor intensive to replace so you don't want a mistake there,
