Search Auto Parts Search 97 suburban fuel problem Sign up here!   Email This Post Auto Repair Home>> Automotive Repair>> Car Troubleshooting bigroy47119 New User Aug 3, 2010, 8:46 AM Post #1 of 4 (1947 views) 97 suburban fuel problem Sign In i have a 97 chevy suburban, 4WD, 5.7L SFI, around 130K miles. i was going down the road and it shut off and would not restart after that. took it to a shop and they said the fuel pump was bad. brought it home, dropped the fuel tank, and replaced the pump. we turned the key over to make sure the fuel pump would run before we reassembled everything and it doesn't run. reconnected the ground wire in a better spot and traced the hot (gray) wire to the front of the car. at a connection in the front, we ran a wire from the positive battery terminal to the gray wire and the pump ran. had the fuel pump relay checked at work today and it seems to be functional. i am running out of ideas here, although one person said it may be the oil pressure switch. but shouldn't the pump kick on for a couple seconds at first before the oil pressure switch takes over. does the fuel pump need to be reinstalled in the tank and everything reassembled for it to work? any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
