97 mitsubishi mirage trouble starting	Sign In

my 97 Mitsubishi mirage v4 1.8L (130000 miles) is having trouble starting. It seems to start easier after it has been sitting for a day, but if I try to start it after it's been sitting for less then an hour it doesn't start as easily, sometimes it won't start at all . It also seems to have more trouble starting when I leave the radio on.

I replaced the old battery with a brand new one and an hour later I had the same trouble starting again.

when starting the car I will hold the key all the way in the start position, but it makes a noise like i am turning the key back and forth between on and off.

in other words, the starter will turn over once wait a second with no sound and then it will crank the starter once again, then it goes quiet once more. (the whole time i am holding the key in the start position)
also the gauges lights seem to be acting normally

the voltage coming out of the battery is at a normal level while the car is off (~12.4Volts) or on (~14.6Volts)

is it the starter,alternator, or something else? what do i do next?

Battery cable connections need be known good at starter and engine block for ground. Begin with that. You just swapped the battery so hope those were checked out then,

I replaced the battery at first this only delayed the problem. eventually the problem came back. next I changed the starter, and its been working fine for two weeks.

the starter that was sold to me had reversed positve and ground terminals, but it was exactly the same as the factory starter. the wires were not long enough to make the switch so I had to lengthen them a few inches to fit... No BIGGI
